Jonathan Kenneth Michael Fell was welcomed into our lives on September 16, 2003. Jonathan is the son of my brother Mark, Ashley and step-mom Jessica, and big brother to Rilley, Kadin and Emma-Lee.

On March 2, 2008 Jonathan passed a blood clot in his urine. He was medivaced from Fort Nelson to Fort St John that evening for further testing. An ultrasound in Fort St John found a tumor on one of his kidneys and Jonathan was then medivaced to the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton. On March 6, 2008, Jonathan was diagnosed with Wilm's Tumor, a kidney cancer, tumors were found on both of his kidneys, his lungs and his lymph nodes and later his liver. Jonathan began Chemotherapy on March 8, 2008.

This first treatment proved to be unsuccessful, as Jonathan's tumors were of non-favorable histology and were spreading and growing at a rapid pace. A second type of Chemotherapy was tried, Jonathan developed pneumonia and was put into intensive care for a time. This treatment ultimately also proved to be unsuccessful and Jonathan's treatment was stopped on May 9th, 2008. On May 13th, Jonathan returned home to Fort Nelson for the duration of his time with us. Jonathan flew home in a 'Candy Apple Red' plane, his favorite colour. Jonathan's spirits picked up upon his return to Fort Nelson and he was happy to be able to visit with his friends and family.

This was not the first struggle that Jonathan has had to face in his young life. When Jonathan was one years old he had to travel to Edmonton's Children's Hospital for surgery for an un-descended testicle. We later learned, after he was diagnosed with Wilm's Tumor, that Jonathan was born with a genetic disorder called Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome. This disorder makes children more prone to developing this type of cancer.

Jonathan was a huge fan of the movie "Cars" and could always be found with several of his "Cars" toys close at hand. Jonathan always had a big smile, and an even bigger heart. Through it all Jonathan would remind us to "Keep your happy faces on"!

Jonathan passed peacefully at 10:58 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2008. We miss him terribly, but feel grateful to have been blessed to have shared in his journey.

A happy face for Jonathan Fell
